This Job Requisition is for two (2) Vacancies

Join UBC Student Housing and Community Services as a Electrical Supervisor, combining hands-on electrical and fire-protection expertise with day-to-day leadership of a skilled trades crew. Reporting to the Trades Manager, you will help maintain the electrical systems that support UBC’s residential communities while overseeing work quality, safety, scheduling, and regulatory compliance.

Compensation and Benefits

Annual salary: approximately $96,133.08–$103,079.52, including the 7% Sub-Head Premium
Additional FSR Premium: $2.20 per hour
Overtime: Paid at double time where applicable
University pension contributions: UBC contributes 9.4% of gross pensionable earnings
Vacation: 3 weeks beginning in the second calendar year, increasing to 4 weeks in the fifth year and up to 6 weeks by the eighteenth year
Additional time off: 3 additional days, or time off in lieu, between Christmas and New Year
Tuition credit/waiver: Up to 12 credits of UBC undergraduate or approved non-credit courses

What You’ll Do

In this role, you will:
Lead and support a skilled trades crew by organizing and allocating work, supervising employees, and participating in the training of workers and apprentices.
Maintain critical electrical systems by performing preventative and breakdown maintenance and troubleshooting, repairing, and installing low- and high-voltage equipment and systems.
Support fire and life-safety systems by testing and repairing fire-protection systems and ensuring work is completed in accordance with applicable requirements and codes.
Serve as the Electrical Field Safety Representative (FSR) for SHCS buildings, supporting compliance with applicable provincial safety legislation, conducting required inspections, and signing permits as required.
Maintain safety and quality standards by ensuring work is completed correctly and safely and in accordance with applicable codes, specifications, university policies, departmental procedures, and established safety practices.
Coordinate day-to-day operations by responding to on-site issues, initiating appropriate corrective action, and communicating with customers to support effective service delivery.
Plan and administer trades work by preparing cost estimates, ordering required materials, and maintaining records related to timekeeping, costing, tools, equipment, work assignments, preventative maintenance, and inspections.
Respond to operational needs and emergencies, including trouble calls outside normal working hours when required.
You will also attend training and workshops as required to maintain current knowledge of electrical codes, safety requirements, and industry practices, and perform other related duties consistent with the requirements of the position.

What You’ll Bring

Minimum Qualifications:
Trade certification to the journeyperson level as a “B” Ticket Electrician
Current Field Safety Representative certification
Valid BC driver’s licence
Minimum five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision
Ability to communicate effectively with trades employees, customers, and other stakeholders
Ability to work various shifts and respond at short notice to emergency calls outside normal working hours
Experience testing and repairing fire-protection systems
Current knowledge of applicable electrical and safety codes, regulations, standards, and practices
Experience using Microsoft Office and relevant controller programming software
Knowledge of Student Housing and Community Services operations, procedures, and processes
